» Tonsina
In 1998, Nutech O3, Inc. was contacted by British Petroleum in 1998 and asked if Nutech could adapt its existing waste water recycling technology for use in killing aquatic nuisance species found in ballast water on its oil tankers. In response, Nutech developed and patented the ballast water treatment process technology that was installed on the British Petroleum Tanker S/T Tonsina in the summer of 2000. During the next 3 years various experiments were conducted to determine the effectiveness of the system.
» Prince William Sound
In June of 2004, Nutech received a grant from NOAA to determine the effectiveness of injecting ozone into ballast water to kill invasive aquatic species. The test vessel for this task will be the T/V Prince William Sound. This project will utilize a single point injection of ozone into the ballast water as the water is pumped onto the ship.
